New to 3Taps? The app has a short tour the first time you open it. You can replay it anytime: Settings › Help & privacy › Take the tour.
Getting started
- Make 3Taps your home screen. Open 3Taps and tap Make 3Taps your home screen, then choose 3Taps. Unlocking your phone now lands on the calm home screen.
- Turn on Guard. Guard shows ✓ Done and the pauses wherever apps are opened. Tap Turn on Guard, read the explanation, then in Android choose Installed apps › 3Taps Guard › On.
- Pick your home apps. Press and hold any app in All apps and choose Add to home. Up to 10 apps; drag to reorder.
- Write today's one thing. Tap the line under the date and write the one thing that matters today.
Guard uses Android's Accessibility permission only to show ✓ Done, pause the apps you limit and close apps. It never reads your messages or what's inside your apps. See the privacy policy.
The ✓ Done button
A small floating tick appears over every app you open. When you've finished, tap it: the app closes and the phone locks. Drag it up or down to move it.
- Free: ✓ Done goes home and locks.
- Premium: choose once what it does: go home and lock, close all apps and lock, close all apps, or just go home. Settings › Home screen › When you tap ✓ Done.
- If the screen stays on after locking (some Samsung phones), turn on Settings › Home screen › Turn the screen off.
Pauses and time limits
- Open Settings › Focus & limits › Distracting apps and tick the apps that pull you in.
- Opening one of them shows a short breathing pause. Choose why you're opening it and for how long (5, 10 or 15 minutes), or tap Not now.
- A warning appears before time is up; then the app closes. Emergency passes let you through when you really need it.
Every other app opens instantly. Premium Strict Mode and schedules keep the limits firm.
Quiet notifications
- Open Settings › Notifications and turn on Quiet notifications. Read the short explanation, then allow 3Taps under Android's Notification access.
- Phone, Messages and your home-screen apps can always notify you. Add others with Allow another app.
- Pick summary times, such as 1 pm and 7 pm. Everything else waits quietly and arrives together then, or anytime from the "waiting" line on your home screen.
Held notifications stay on your phone for up to two days, then they're deleted. Calls and alarms always ring.
Focus sessions
- Tap Focus 25 on the home screen. Change the length in Settings › Focus timer & sounds.
- To silence notifications while you focus, turn on Settings › Notifications › Silence notifications during Focus and allow 3Taps under Android's Do Not Disturb access. Notifications come back at your break.
- Tap Sounds for rain, ocean, brown noise and more, or Add a folder to play your own music, audiobooks or podcasts. Turn on Play with Focus to start them automatically.
Connect your notes apps
Swipe down on the home screen to write or speak a note. Notes stay on your phone unless you connect a service in Settings › Notes & connections. Each note can go to any or all of them; tick them under "Also send to".
One tap to connect
- Google Docs and Google Tasks: tap Sign in, choose your Google account, tap Allow. Voice recordings are saved to a "3Taps voice notes" folder in your Drive and linked.
- OneNote and Microsoft To Do: tap Sign in and sign in to Microsoft. Choose the notebook section or list with Choose notebook section and Choose list.
- Obsidian, Logseq or any Markdown folder: tap Choose folder and pick your vault.
- Google Keep and other apps: choose the app once; notes go there through Android's Share menu.
Connect with a key
- Notion:
- On a computer, open notion.so/profile/integrations › New integration, type Internal, name it 3Taps, and copy the Internal Integration Secret.
- Open the database for your notes, click ••• at the top right › Connections › add 3Taps.
- Copy the database link (Share › Copy link).
- In 3Taps, tap Connect with token next to Notion and paste both.
- Todoist: in Todoist, open Settings › Integrations › Developer, copy the API token, and paste it in 3Taps next to Todoist.
- Capacities: needs Capacities Pro. Create an API token in Capacities' settings and paste it in 3Taps.
- Zapier, Make or n8n: create a webhook trigger, copy its address, and paste it under Webhook. Voice recordings are included in the data, so your automation can save them anywhere.
If a note isn't arriving, open Notes, tap the note to see the reason, then Try again. Each sent note shows ✓ Open ↗ to jump straight to it.
Guardian Mode setup Premium
Guardian Mode keeps selected apps within easy reach and puts limits on the rest. Set it up together, on the phone it will protect, before handing it over.
- Choose who it's for: Settings › Guardian Mode › This phone is for.
- A child: limits with optional allowances. Only your PIN or your code opens more.
- Someone else: an older parent, or anyone who needs a simpler phone. A helper can unlock over a call, and a waiting time can switch Guardian off if the helper can't be reached.
- Me: your own phone stays open. Only apps you limit lock when their time is up, and Guardian settings need your fingerprint, face or PIN.
- Set a PIN and write down the recovery code it shows. Keep it somewhere safe, away from the phone.
- Link a helper (for a child or someone else): enter the helper's name and phone number, then on the helper's own phone open 3Taps › Settings › I'm a helper › Scan QR code and scan the QR shown.
- Choose the home apps. Phone and Messages are always there; add up to 8 more, or none.
- Give daily minutes to apps they may use a little, such as a game or YouTube: 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes a day.
- Turn it on and check together: open a home app, try a locked app, and practise asking for more time.
Calls, emergency numbers and payment apps are designed to stay available. Check the allowed apps on the actual phone before relying on it.
Being someone's helper
- On your own phone, open 3Taps › Settings › I'm a helper. Codes are hidden until you use your fingerprint, face or PIN, so no one else can make one.
- When they ask for more time, pick how much to give: 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60 minutes.
- Read the code out over a call or send it in a message. If they show a QR on their screen, tap Scan QR code instead; that answer works once, for that app.
Switch back anytime
- Android Settings › Apps › Default apps › Home app, and choose your previous launcher.
- To uninstall, first switch off 3Taps › Settings › Home screen › Turn the screen off if it's on. If Strict Mode is running, wait for the session to end.
Common questions
The ✓ Done button or the pause doesn't appear
Turn on 3Taps Guard: Android Settings › Accessibility › Installed apps › 3Taps Guard. On Samsung phones, also switch off the "3Taps Guard shortcut" if you don't want the floating Accessibility button.
The Guardian PIN is forgotten
- Helper code. The helper opens 3Taps on their own phone (Settings › I'm a helper) and reads out the code. Enter it where the PIN goes.
- Recovery code. The 10-character code shown when the PIN was set. Tap "Use the recovery code".
- Someone else's phone: if the helper can't be reached, tap "Can't reach…" and Guardian Mode turns off after the waiting time the helper chose.
- "Me" profile: use your fingerprint or face, or tap "Forgot the PIN?" and wait 5 minutes.
- Last resort: restart in Android's safe mode (hold the power-off button until "Safe mode" appears), open Settings › Security › Device admin apps, switch off 3Taps, and uninstall it.
My phone still opens with a swipe after locking
That's Android's Smart Lock (trusted devices, places or on-body detection). Change it in Settings › Lock screen › Smart Lock.
Managing Premium
Subscriptions are managed in Google Play › Payments & subscriptions. To restore a purchase on a new phone, open 3Taps › Settings › 3Taps Premium › Restore purchases.
Deleting your data
All 3Taps data is stored on your phone; uninstalling deletes it. See the privacy policy for removing access to connected accounts.
